Take a Hike!
Beers Made By Walking is an AWOL project sponsored by Rocky Mountain Brewing and GOCA. Seven times throughout the summer of 2011 a group of people consisting of Eric Steen (the artist), a Homebrewer, a commercial Brewer, and a Naturalist (who can identify wild plants) will go on a hike or walk in the Pikes Peak Region. Hikes are open to the public and their purpose is to identify edible and medicinal plants that could potentially be used in the making of a beer. Hikes range in time from two hours to five hours and differ in terrain from an urban hike to an intensive mountainous hike.
After each hike, the brewers and naturalist will build a beer recipe, taking into consideration the plants and ingredients they identified. The ingredients will be purchased from a local herb and spice shop and beer will be brewed by the Homebrewer in the commercial space of Rocky Mountain Brewery. Two times during the summer and fall, a local pub will have a special event where the beers will be put on tap and available to the general public.
$5 gets you a flight. AUGUST 27 & OCTOBER 9 | 4 – 8 pm | Brewer’s Republic (downtown Colorado Springs)
